OBSERVATIONAL DRAWING
We will focus on developing our ability to draw what we see, not what we think we see.
Tactile Self-Portraits
Negative Space Drawings
What is NEGATIVE SPACE?
As a warm up we completed a 10 minute BLIND CONTOUR drawing of the tower of chairs prior to drawing the negative space.
To the right are a few examples from 10th period's first attempt at drawing negative space. ---------------------------------------------------------> |
We used our new understanding of NEGATIVE SPACE to draw the negative space in between and around a tower of chairs.

Reductive Charcoal Drawings: Hand Holding an Object
We used our view finder to help us create a reductive charcoal drawing of our hand holding an object. This was our first time testing out this drawing technique. Bellow are a few examples from each class.
Contour Drawings: Foreshortened Hand Drawing & Linear Perspective
We created VIEW FINDERS to help us better understand linear perspective and create FORESHORTENED contour drawings of our hands.

What is FORESHORTENING?
|
We completed TWO five minute portraits of the person sitting next to us in class. Here are two examples of blind contour portrait drawings.
|
We completed TWO blind contours of a figure (Ms. Camacho). The first was five minutes long, the second was 10 minutes long. This is an example of a blind contour drawing of a figure from the blog: The Exciting Adventures of a Student Illustrator.
